What if you could know in advance, with absolute certainty, you’ll make it through?! Whatever circumstances come screaming into your life? You’ll make it through! Or suffering? All will come to a victorious end! Sound too amazing to be true? I used to think so too, until God led me through seven Bible Verses for anxiety and then connected the dots to reveal an incredible spiritual truth.
Hijacked by Anxiety
Does this ever happen to you? I’ll wake up in the morning thinking, A new day! I love the freshness of a new day with all the hope and possibility hidden within. Makes me feel all giddy inside. But then the next thing I know, Bam! Like a smack in the face, the anxiety of a situation or circumstance hijacks my peace of mind.
Hope and possibility fog into worry and anxiousness. Anxiety is a slippery slope that often leads to condemnation, like blaming myself or others. Or thinking God must be disappointed in me. Therefore he’s distanced himself from me – both pure deception of the Enemy. But when anxious thoughts like that go unchecked, the sloshy trail of rampant thinking can easily land me in a cesspool of self-loathing crap.
Because unchecked anxious thoughts create unchecked anxious feelings. Unchecked anxious feelings create unchecked anxious actions. And unchecked anxious actions create outcomes you never intended – what I call net negative outcomes.
Connecting the Dots
But, Good News! Our anxious thoughts don’t have to go unchecked! As a Believer, you are never left defenseless as you navigate life on earth. The Bible is brimming with spiritual truths that never return void and always accomplish what God purposed them for – like the following seven verses! Before continuing, ask the Spirit to reveal the truth to you, connect the dots in your mind and activate your faith to take hold of the truth.
Who then is left to condemn us? Certainly not Jesus, the Anointed One! For he gave his life for us, and even more than that, he has conquered death and is now risen, exalted, and enthroned (seated) by God at his right hand. So how could he possibly condemn us since he is continually praying for our triumph?” Romans 8:34, emphasis mine
Before Jesus, priests never sat down. The tabernacle didn’t even have chairs to sit in because the priests never finished their work.
Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.” Hebrews 10:11
But Jesus sat down!
But when this priest (Jesus) had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.” Hebrews 10:12, emphasis and clarity mine
Jesus’ last words on the cross were, “It is finished.” And he meant them. After his resurrection and ascension, he sat down at the right hand of God. But what difference does that make for you and me?
In Christ, You’re Seated Too
If you’re in Christ, meaning you’ve trusted Jesus as your Savior, you’re seated too.
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:6
What?!!! I hear you. How is this possible? Union.
When you placed your faith in Jesus to do for you what you couldn’t do for yourself (live a sinless life), you entered into union with Christ.
When I (Jesus) am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” John 14:20, clarity mine
Can you hear the union language? Jesus is in the Father. You are in Jesus. And Jesus is in you. Union!
Spiritual Reality
When anxiety hijacks your peace of mind, don’t let the anxiety go unchecked. Stop the anxious cycle by remembering who you belong to and the realities associated with union in Christ.
Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:1-2, emphasis mine
You are already seated with Christ in heaven. Hmmmmm, say what?! I know, right? Sounds unbelievable, but it’s the spiritual reality of all Believers. Spiritually, you’re already seated with Christ in heaven. That’s how secure you are. That’s how healed you are. How safe you are. How forgiven and redeemed you are.
Whatever you’re anxious about this very minute, it’s already finished. You survived it. You made it through! That’s the spiritual reality because in Christ, you’re already seated with him in glory. Breathe deeply and ask the Spirit to assure you of this truth.
But What About Suffering?
Yes, on earth, there will be suffering. On earth, we experience anxiousness and uncertainty. But as Believers, our security is certain.
Back when I was walking through the darkness of healing from childhood sexual abuse, anxiety and hopelessness were a daily battle. But it was in those dark years of suffering that God connected me with the truth of my union with him – I am already seated with Christ in heaven, that is my spiritual reality, and nobody or nothing can change it. The hope and certainty of this spiritual reality secured my mind and sustained me through the suffering.
Yes, on earth, there will be suffering. But here’s the thing, Believers never suffer alone. Believers never suffer without Hope.
Grasp the Lifeline
Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, and in Christ, so are you! This spiritual reality is a piece of your inheritance in Christ. Not for some day in the future, but for today. So, believe it! You’re meant to live in hope and certainty today!
Our anxious thoughts don’t have to go unchecked! As a Believer, you are never left defenseless as you navigate life on earth.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 1:18-20, emphasis mine
